The Vision to Lead. The Ability to Get Things Done.
A Business Leader Who Gets Results

Candidate Thompson poses with Hispanic Business Initiative Fund Success Story winner for 2009, Juan Chirinos, owner of Rinse Cleaners.
From small business owner to community magazine publisher and successful business mentoring group leader, Jennifer realized early on that success for her meant helping others succeed. This passion is what motivates her in every part of her life – helping others succeed. Jennifer is often recognized as a local, “roll up your sleeves” type business leader and does so in various roles; including serving as President of the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce where for nearly four years she worked to help grow the small business community.
In fact, in her professional and volunteer capacities, Jennifer has personally assisted over 100 companies open their doors for business throughout District 4. One of her most notable achievements as Chamber President was leading a ten-month community visioning study, which was recognized by the Orlando Business Journal and Orange County as a roadmap for the future for economic growth and diversification in our region. For her vision, leadership and dedication to her community, Jennifer was recognized in 2005 by the Orlando Business Journal as Central Florida’s Top Business Woman under the Age of 40.
A Citizen Leader Who Gives Back

Jennifer shares her ‘getting back on the right path’ story with young people.
A native and lifelong Central Floridian, Jennifer was born at the Orlando Naval Training Center and raised by a hard working, single mom. She attended University High School the first year it opened, which was about the time Jennifer needed and experienced first-hand the positive impact a mentor played in her life, helping her get back on the right path.
Jennifer later earned her degree from UNC, which is where she met her husband, David. Jennifer then settled back in Orlando and now gladly shares her own story with young people today.
Jennifer’s personal commitment to community doesn’t stop there. She has been a champion for the American Cancer Society (ACS) for the past 10 years, having helped start the Relay for Life of East Orlando at Timber Creek High School, chairing the Relay for Life of Lake Nona and, most recently, chairing the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, which is the largest fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in the State of Florida. Beyond her work with ACS, she has served on the Board of Directors for Florida Hospital East Orlando, the Children’s Rescue Network and Florida Executive Women. In 2004, Jennifer was recognized as Non-Rotarian of the Year for her civic dedication.
Hard-Work and Dedication Mark Her Every Step

Having never run before 2008, Jennifer accepted the challenge to raise funds for medical research.
“Actions speak louder than words” is a saying Jennifer takes to heart, even in her personal life. In late July 2008, Jennifer accepted the challenge to help raise money for medical research at the Burnham Institute by agreeing to run a marathon. Having never run before, she began her training and has now run two marathons and six half marathons including the 2010 39.3 mile Disney Goofy Challenge (Half Marathon and Full Marathon in two days).
Whether its running marathons, helping new businesses open their doors or completing a “visioning study” that was eventually adopted by Orange County, friends and community leaders alike have recognized Jennifer’s dedication and perseverance in achieving goals.
That’s why so many encouraged Jennifer to run for the County Commission. They know District 4 needs someone who will represent their interests and not stop until the job is done.
