Video – Why I Support the Orange County Tax Abatement Referendum

I've created a short video explaining why I support the Orange County Tax Abatement Referendum that will be featured on the upcoming January 31, 2012 Presidential Primary Election Ballot.

If approved, the referendum would authorize the BCC to grant property tax exemptions for new or expanding businesses that are creating new jobs. The idea is to encourage job growth and help spur new investment in Orange County.

To learn more about the referendum, visit the county site by clicking here.

All registered voters in Orange County are eligible to vote on this nonpartisan issue. If approved, the program will authorize the County to grant qualifying businesses a temporary County property tax exemption of up to 100% on new capital improvement and/or equipment purchases for up to 10 years. This incentive will have no impact on what the company is currently paying in County taxes on existing land, buildings, infrastructure and equipment.

Public Information Meeting for SR 50 Improvements

The Florida Department of Transportation is holding a public information meeting regarding plans to widen SR 50 (Colonial Drive) from Dean Road to Old Cheney Highway. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Spirit of Joy Church at 1801 Rouse Road, Orlando, FL.  It is a Public Information Meeting beginning at 4:30 p.m. and will end at 6:30 p.m.

The project consists of the reconstruction of the four-lane rural roadway plus adding a new travel lane in each direction for a proposed six-lane divided roadway.  The project extends from Dean Road to Old Cheney Highway.  It also involves adding curb and gutter with bike lanes, sidewalks, 11 signalized intersections and drainage improvements.  Access to all businesses adjacent to the improvements will be maintained throughout the construction period.  The final design will be completed in the spring of 2013.  The project is funded for construction.  Construction will take place from the fall of 2013 to the fall of 2016.

For additional information concerning the project, please contact Christopher Dabson, P.E., the FDOT project manager, at 386-943-5321 or via email at chris.dabson@dot.state.fl,us.  You may also view information on the project at www.cflroads.com.
