Utilities Household Hazardous and Electronic Waste Collection Event

The Orange County Utilities Department is holding a Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Community Collection Event on Saturday, April 21, 2012, 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

Eligible residents are encouraged to bring household hazardous waste and electronic waste from their homes to the Community Collection Event for proper disposal that is free of charge.

 

The event will be held at the Valencia Community College West Campus, 1800 S. Kirkman Road, Orlando, FL 32811.

 

Please note, only hazardous waste and electronic waste from eligible Orange County homes will be accepted.  Eligible participants include residents of unincorporated Orange County and the cities of Apopka, Ocoee, Orlando, Windermere, and Winter Garden only.  Proof of residency required.

Upcoming May Horticulture Classes

Orange County Government continues to provide unique opportunities for residents interested in learning about the latest news and practices affecting our area. The Orange County Extension and Education Center offer numerous classes that benefit the citizens of Orange County and surrounding areas. The following classes will be held in May:

University Boulevard Plaza Express Lanes to Close Overnight

The southbound State Road 417 (Central Florida GreeneWay) Express Lanes at the University Boulevard Plaza on are scheduled to close between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, to accommodate sign work. During this time, E-PASS customers will be directed through the plaza’s cash lanes where E-PASS is also accepted. Minor delays are possible.

Also, the southbound SR 417 ramp to eastbound State Road 408 (Spessard L. Holland East-West Expressway) is scheduled to close Thursday, April 12, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The closure is needed to place an overhead sign structure. Detour signs will be posted directing motorists to exit at Curry Ford Road to access eastbound SR 408.

Bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances could delay or prolong work.

Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction area for their safety and that of the work crews. Please be advised that speeding fines are doubled when workers are present. Motorists are reminded to change lanes for safety when they see Road Rangers assisting other motorists or flashing lights – it’s Florida law.
