Karri Simpson working with the United Way!

Karri Simpson, Aide on the District 4 Team, has been recently appointed to the United Way’s Alleviating Hunger and Homelessness Cabinet.

Homelessness is a major social issue in our community that needs careful study and a proactive plan to address. It's great that Karri is willing to serve in this capacity on behalf of the citizens of Orange County.  She will be a great benefit to the United Way as she has an extensive background in homelessness issues, and received her MSW in Social Policy from the University of Michigan.  Her previous works includes working with homeless clients in Detroit, Michigan as well as underprivileged children in New York City.

The United Way’s Alleviating Hunger and Homelessness Cabinet is responsible for addressing issues related to reducing hunger and homelessness in Central Florida, assessing the data and needs of the homeless community and those assisting them.  The current 2010 point in time count for those who are homeless in Central Florida is at 4,046, with 1,976 unsheltered.  Within that number, 63 percent are in Orange County.
